Homeless, 1890, is one of a series of works in which Kennington depicts the plight of women and children who were impoverished or destitute. Subjects such as these gained popularity during the 1870s and 1880s, partly as a result of the increasing influence of illustrated journals, which regularly commisssioned artists to provide images of ‘real’ life.
In Homeless, the square-brush technique used by Kennington in painting the wet pavement and the river, and his focus on subtle tonal variations rather than on colour - as in the soft grey light illuminating this scene - were among the characteristics adapted by British artists from French sources at the time.

This is so BEAUTIFUL. I just spent the past 30 minutes going through pictures and sketching away. This is the type of design I absolutely LOVE. The section is beautiful, it uses one material: bamboo, but in different scales to create the whole structure. Bamboo is so abundant, that it’s also pretty cheap. The way it’s placed on along the shore and levitates in the water….ohmygoodness.

Someone I’m friends with on Facebook, that I’m friendly with but not quite good friends with, posted the saddest thing on his Facebook. He basically said that he told his parents two years ago that he was gay, and although his mom has been supportive, his dad hasn’t spoken a full sentence to him in two years.
Today he’s moving into his own apartment and his dad says that he has to leave his house key with them, and has to give head notice and knock on the door like any other stranger if he comes to see them. :(
THAT’S SO SAD. He’s such a good person, and should not be treated like this by his own dad!
